Brendan Gillatt
Olivetti Laptop

Description

This very old laptop was given to me because it did not work. It would power up to a white screen. By adjusting the screen contrast and brightness, it could be made visible.

A partial POST would occur whereby the copyright notice of Phoenix BIOS would become visible before hanging. I could not recover the BIOS using a firmware flashing disk and Phoenix weren't all that helpful.

It had a Pentium I processor, 16MBytes of RAM and an 800 by 600 pixel LCD monitor.

The Images

The motherboard showing the UMC, Sirrus Logic and Chips Inc. chipset. The PCMCIA card slot. The painfully underpowered Pentium I processor running at 120MHz The real time clock and BIOS CMOS. As can be seen by the dis-coloured area on
the motherboard, there was a slight modification before I got my hands on it. Slots to upgrade the internal 16MBytes of RAM. Various connectors (RS232 Parallel, etc.) The IrDa port
